Thursday, November 16, 2017                                BALLET CHICAGO

In a highly anticipated “Young Artists for Young Audiences”, the Ballet Chicago Studio Company teams up with the Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (ChiArts) in Choral Colors, a program of live dance and live music featuring the ChiArts Choral Department. Hosted by Ballet Chicago Artistic Director Daniel Duell, the program will showcase original choreography by four rising dance-makers selected by Ballet Chicago Resident Choreographer Ted Seymour. The new dances will be set to an increasing number of human voices (solo, duet, trio, and quartet) in a variety of styles including classical, gospel and jazz. The program will also include a spectacular excerpt from Ballet Chicago’s delightful “Nutcracker,” and an audience-participation mini-lesson in ballet.

Thursday, December 14, 2017                                CONCIERTO NAVIDEÑO /  CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Samuel del Real’s Latin Quintet will perform a series of international Christmas songs such as Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas, El Burrito Sabanero, The Christmas Song, and much more.  They will discuss the instruments that create these expressive sounds and where they originated.  There is lots of student/artists interaction.  Share the joy as this ensemble enhances students’ understanding of and enthusiasm for music.

This multicultural, educational music program is designed to expose students to the fascinating and diverse world of classical music. The concert is an exciting journey around the world, exploring different cultures through music. The musical selections from Germany, Argentina, the US, France, and others are carefully chosen to introduce students to different styles and elements of music, and every composition is paired with entertaining information about the composer, the style of the piece, and the unique characteristics of each brass instrument.

The Pangaea Jazz Quintet’s members are pianist Kelly Brand, vocalist Saalik Ziyad, saxophonist Ari Brown, bassist Kelly Sill, and drummer Avreeayl Ra. While they are all jazz musicians, the varied influences that each brings to the group result in a single, many-faceted sound. The musicians are eager to show the audience the joy and beauty of improvised music. Pangaea is not a rigid concept, but rather a group effort involving listening, cooperation, exploration, and often surprise.

Amaze your students with what the human voice can do! Join the South Shore Opera Company, named Chicago’s No. 1 Classical/Music event of 2013 by the Chicago Sun-Times, on this interactive journey through a unique art form. Through performance, discussion, and audience participation, the quartet will introduce students to the theatrical aspects of vocal performance. The performances include audience participation.

Listen to the future.  Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) Concert Orchestra will present a concert of “classical” music from a variety of eras. Between each piece, Conductor Michael Mascari, along with members of the predominantly high school-aged orchestra, will demonstrate and discuss individual instruments and take questions from the audience.

Drum Talk is a group of diverse percussionists hailing from Chicago’s vibrant drumming community, from the roots of World Percussion, Jazz/Blues, and Afro/Latin drumming, coming together to make modern rhythms using traditional languages resulting in an urban dialogue. Come and hear very energetic, communicative and danceable music by a fun group of highly trained professionals.  Plenty of artist/audience participation.
