SPEKTRAL QUARTET – Thursday, December 15, 2016

“The Muse behind the Music” Spektral Quartet leads the audience on a sonic journey to uncover and de-code the inspiration behind a composer’s musical journey. Using music from the past and present, Spektral traces the development of style within a larger musical framework, and within a composer’s own search for creativity. From the Romantic world of a young Felix Mendelssohn to the darkly poetic and punk work of David Reminick for singing string quartet, the Quartet promises an action-packed adventure that will open ears to new ways of listening and deeper understanding.

Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO) has provided music education through orchestral programs and performance opportunities of the highest caliber since 1946. Led by newly appointed Concert Orchestra Conductor Michael Mascari, the Orchestra will perform works from the 19th and 20th centuries.  The young musicians will also demonstrate individual instruments and take questions from the audience.
